Drs. Valdez and Steinmetz of the NBRI and collaborators at Arizona State University and the Barrow Neurological Institute showed that neurons in the human amygdala, anterior cingulate cortex, and hippocampus selectively respond to the race of face images.

Responsive neurons were broadly distributed in terms of the types of race categories they responded to.
